RV Life Essential? Modiwell Dry Flush Toilet Deep Dive: Is It Really Better Than Laveo?

Modiwell Dry Flush Toilet Review

Lately, I've been getting a ton of questions about the Modiwell dry flush toilet, and it seems like everyone's curious about it! Today, I'm here to give you an updated review of my experience with the Modiwell toilet, comparing it to the Laveo toilet I used before. Hopefully, this will help you out with your RV adventures!

Why Modiwell? It's All About the Runtime!

I've taken the Modiwell toilet on trips through Las Vegas and Utah, and it's performed wonderfully every step of the way! I can definitely say I prefer it over the Laveo toilet. The main reason for this conclusion? How often I have to change the refill bags.

I have a habit of logging every refill bag change in my Google Calendar. When I was using the Laveo toilet, I found myself changing the bag every 5 days on average. But with the Modiwell? That frequency dropped significantly, to an average of just every 20 days! I'm back home now, so the actual usage might even exceed 20 days, but that 20-day average has truly impressed me.

I also did a quick calculation, and the Modiwell refill bags are super compact. I can carry enough to last me for about 200 days! Currently, I have three to four refill packs in my RV, and each pack provides 30 flushes. Just like with the Laveo, I try to maximize each flush. For liquid waste, I can usually get three to four flushes, and I often leave it overnight; but for solid waste, of course, I flush immediately.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the performance of the Modiwell dry flush toilet.

Other Options on the Market: Wrappon Trekker, Sunny, and Clesana

In the world of dry flush toilets, there are a few other products worth mentioning:

  • Wrappon Trekker: This one is quite expensive, over $1100, putting it around the same price as the Laveo, or even higher. Its function is similar, sealing waste in bags.
  • Wrappon Sunny: This model is priced similarly to the Modiwell. While the Modiwell has a more square shape, the Sunny has a slight curve, resembling a more traditional oval or elongated home toilet. However, I haven't seen this product on Amazon yet, which might be a factor to consider if you're looking to buy.
  • Clesana: If anyone can find this in the US, I'd love to know! This toilet looks incredibly sleek, almost like a built-in cassette toilet, and appears to be designed for installation rather than portability. It also seals waste with a flush, and there's a small drawer at the bottom where you can retrieve the sealed bags. It even has a seat angle adjustment feature, similar to a built-in cassette toilet. I've seen it in some Japanese van conversion or RV-style living videos, and one Youtuber test-drove an RV equipped with a Clesana, which I thought was really cool.

Refill Convenience: Modiwell Shines Here

The availability of Modiwell toilet refills has also been a big plus for me. After I posted my first video, Amazon Prime's two-day delivery service for the refills was briefly unavailable, and I could only select "Subscribe & Save." This made me a bit nervous, as I'd experienced similar issues with Laveo refills sometimes taking a week or so to arrive. But thankfully, as of recording this video, Modiwell refills are back to being available with Amazon Prime's two-day delivery. I'm still subscribed to "Subscribe & Save," but getting that fast Prime delivery (depending on your location) feels fantastic. I also stocked up on a few packs of refills just in case they become unavailable for Prime delivery again.

As for Wrappon's products, I haven't specifically searched for them on Amazon, so I'm not sure about their refill convenience. However, the prices of these two products are quite similar.

The Only Minor "Downside": Charging Frequency

If I had to point out a "downside" for the Modiwell, it would be that it needs to be charged more frequently. The Laveo toilet, during my month and a half to two months of use, only needed to be charged during the initial setup and never again after that. The Modiwell, however, requires more frequent charging, possibly because it's always in standby mode with an indicator light on, which consumes more power. This isn't a big deal for me, as I have a small Jackery power station that I can just plug it into. So, this "downside" is pretty minor.

Conclusion: Modiwell Is Absolutely Worth It!

All things considered, if you're thinking about getting a portable toilet, whether you're customizing an RV, grappling with bathroom solutions for an Embassy RV, or just need a portable option, I absolutely recommend the Modiwell.

I believe it offers great value for the money, and its price is more reasonable than other products on the market. The refills are easy to install, and most importantly, they're easy to store and access. When you're on the road, you definitely don't want to worry about where your refills are coming from, how fast you can get them, or how long they'll last.

As I mentioned, I can get an average of 20 days of use, which is a massive improvement over Laveo's 5 days! And just look at the size of the refills: I currently have enough for about 200 days of use in my RV. If I wanted 200 days of use with Laveo, I'd need around 40 Laveo boxes – can you imagine carrying 40 boxes? It would be impossible in an RV; I'd probably need a dedicated trailer just for Laveo refills!

Plus, I even think the overall user experience of the Modiwell is better than the Laveo. I'll try to avoid too many details, but I can tell you that the Modiwell also has better sound effects. The Laveo is a bit noisy and makes a strange sound.

So, to sum it up, the Modiwell is definitely a worthwhile purchase. This share was just a quick update on my Modiwell experience and my overall thoughts.
